Q&A with Fiona Brown, NSW State Sales Manager

Why did you decide on a career in the mortgage broking sector?

I worked in retail sales (mostly fashion) while at school and university and when the banks started to become more retail focused I decided to apply for a role. Once in the bank branch I learnt more about the industry and the vast opportunities it presented – my interest has continued from that point.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

I love helping people and seeing brokers make things happen. Watching them achieve success gives me a great sense of achievement and enjoyment.

What are your career highlights?

I was selected as one of only three finalists for the MFAA Excellence Awards in the BDM of the Year category. It will definitely be a career highlight should I win the highly contested award. Moreover, simply being a leading BDM for the industry’s most progressive aggregator is a career highlight and I am very proud of our collective success.

What are the greatest challenges for you in 2011?

To continue to understand NCCP and its implications and to assist brokers to implement the legislation into their businesses. I believe that with NCCP will come many benefits for brokers and I enjoy working with them to unlock these opportunities.

What’s something about you that most people wouldn’t know?

My first name is actually Emma but I have always been known by my middle name, Fiona.

How do you like to relax?

Enjoying good food and company. I also like to exercise … so that I can enjoy more good food and company.

Who do you most admire?

It is always hard to go past Nelson Mandela. How he survived his incarceration then inspired so many people to follow his dreams for South Africa is incredible.
